I played quite a bit more and it's grown on me.

The setting and feel of the world is really good.

I'm still very much on the fence but tempted to get it now.

My main concern is that like Destiny I'll work my way through the content and areas and then there will be nothing but pointless grinding until new stuff is released for it.

I think the grind is part and parcel of these type of games though. To not want to do it means the game probably isn't for you.

I don't have a problem with grinding just poorly implemented grinding. Diablo 3 does it perfectly and Phantasy Star Online (PSO!!!!) is a game built around grinding for better items and that is one of my favourite games of all time. I don't know why but I just find the acquiring and levelling of items in Destiny really boring.

Gave Helldivers a go last night with the wife and I am impressed. It is a good mix of a twin stick shooter with elements Diablo hack'n'slash. All wrapped up in a Starship Troopers (the movies) style presentation.

What did you think?

I think it's a good little game. I've been struggling on the S class licence as I just cannot seem to shave off the couple of seconds that I need on one of the courses. Apart from that I think it's a good racer.

I can't remember much about it, I recall enjoying it a lot though.

Made a start on Hitman Go: Definitive Edition yesterday and I am really impressed! It is a brilliant translation of the core mechanics of Hitman into a turn based puzzle game. The board game/diorama aesthetic is really cool too.

Now playing Assassins Creed: Syndicate. For ages ice wanted the Victorian London setting in AC. Then when I got it, I suddenly didn't like the look of the game and for the first time didn't get an AC game on release. Now I've finally got it and after playing the opening I'm still not sure. This should be what I want yet it's not really appealing. The opening isn't bad with some big set pieces. The action seems a lot quicker than I remember the others bring however I'm not a fan of the cluttered on screen graphics. But I haven't got into London properly yet so that will be my next task to be a digital tourist of a place i know very well. However if the game doesn't gel I may just be having a quick play of the storyline rather than a full completion. Is it just me or are games too long these days?

Don't know about games being too long these days, but I do think there has been too many open world action games over the last year or so. Says me, currently playing.....Far Cry Primal, a cookie cutter Ubisoft open world action game.  Wink

In a way I mean I can't be bothered to complete so many of the arbitrary tasks that have been included in games recently. The games that have grabbed me like Mad Max, yes I will, but Syndicate isn't ticking my boxes right now and while I like to try to complete games as much as possible to do all the little tasks to get that is just a huge time sink I don't think I can be bothered with. Massive worlds with hundreds of small tasks seems to be the in thing at the moment.

Sounds like you have open world fatigue! For me the gameplay needs to be engaging enough to sustain you going into every nook and cranny of the world. It also helps when the map is not rammed with icons. For me the AC games have too much pointless crap in there compared to something like Shadows of Mordor which was a more economical usage of the trappings of open world games.

I think it's impossible for anyone to complete all of those games: Batman: Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Mad Max, Far Cry: Primal, AC: Syndicate - and these are the ones I can only think off the top of my head.

Personally, Mad Max has been my favourite and I've been happily plugging away at it. The vehicular nature makes it different from the others. I really like how Arkham Knight introduces the side missions and bonus stuff into the main game so have enjoyed that too. But AC is just coming across as boring at the moment.

I'm quite interested in FC: Primal too, again because it's offering something different. And I'm resigned myself to never finishing Witcher!! So AC unfortunately has drawn a short straw and I'm just wanting to complete it as quickly as possible - and I've only just started the game which really shows my current opinion of it.

Primal is OK but it's not that different to any other Ubisoft open world game to be honest, despite the setting. If you've played any other Far Cry or AC game it will all feel very familiar.

Now playing Zombi. As the free PS+ game I was quite interested to try it and just played the opening this evening. First up the graphics are rubbish. If this is what the WiiU looks like, no wonder it's a failure! But I like the setting of the game and the start was quite enjoyable. It looks like it makes zombies scary again, and could be a challenge. I will come back to this shortly - I just want to finish Syndicate first.

This is very, very true.  The setting, weapons and overall story is certainly unique, but is is an Ubisoft game through and through.  Outposts, hunting, side missions, collectibles...I guess what you feel about these games will decide how much you enjoy it.  For me...it's great.  Hunting and resource gathering is compulsove, taming animals is great fun and I have just unlocked a skill that lets me ride them.  Yep, I can ride Boris my tamed Sabretooth Tiger.

Additionally, I too started Zombi.  It's alright.  Weapon combat is satisfying, the location is cool and the set up is fun.

Quantum Break - Xbox One

Been playing this for a few days now and it's actually not bad. The reviews have been mixed but after a bit of a slow start it starts getting good. The time manipulation aspects add some neat twists to the combat and is used for some occasional puzzle solving too. The live action TV episodes that play at the end of each act - they can be streamed or downloaded - are an interesting touch and blend in well with the playable side of the game. The production values for the TV episodes are pretty decent too. Overall a pretty solid effort. You also get a free download of Alan Wake, playable on XBOX1 via backward compatibility, including all the DLC.

Now playing Resident Evil 6 on PS4. This is one of the worst games I've ever played. It gets almost everything wrong, and is a perfect example of overblown, unfocused triple-A game making.

So why did I just spend £15 to re-buy it on PS4? Because I'm willing to give it another go. Surely it can't be that bad, right? It must have some redeeming qualities! I'm very intrigued to see if my opinions on the game still stand. But also, they don't make coop games very often these days it seems, and talking about this with Marky we both decided we wanted to play a coop game like we used to, and with this recent remake it seems worth doing again.

Perhaps I will regret my decision and it will still be shit - but I'm gonna find out now!

My main games at the moment are Pokemon Yellow when I'm out and about, slowly progressing through Dark Souls II when I'm feeling up to it. Then playing the "actually its rather good" Star Fox Zero when I want to take my mind off things.

Now playing Table Top Racing: World Tour. It's currently free on PSN so worth a try! It's a simple Micro Machines rip off but it's actually got some good looking and well designed tracks. And the cars are cool and look cute. What lets it down are the weapons. So often the case with kart racers that aren't Mario Kart, the game is horribly unbalanced - a win one time is a loss another for no discernible reason. The game modes are also a bit pedestrian, and the online sucked. But as a quick game to pass the time, or while waiting for people to come online to play something else it fills the quick 5minutd game slot I've had free since Rocket League came out.

Housemarque's latest shooter Alienation. It's Dead Nation with aliens at it's most basic but early impressions are it's a lot tougher, it's also got a touch of Diablo about it with loot drops and such. As ever with Housemarque it's top notch graphically.

Now playing:

Star Wars Racers Revenge. I loved the pod racing games originally so really looking forward to playing this. The rose tinted glasses did cons into effect a little as I not remember it looking so brown! But it actually handles pretty well still and even satisfies a current craving - a sci fi racer they don't really make these days.

Super Star Wars - I've never played this, and from the ten minutes I did tonight won't be playing it again. I love the idea of this old retro SW game but honestly I couldn't get past the first level boss. An interesting curio but too difficult for me to play it to the end.

Star Wars Jedi Starfighter - another I played back in the day but I didn't complete this one. The graphics are z bit better this time round, with space battles and cut scenes actually looking ok but the controls are a bit sensitive and inaccurate. But maybe I can complete it this time round?

Overall I've had a fun nostalgia blast this evening. Throwaway games for sure - if only recommend it if you really want that nostalgia trip only, and even then might not play them to completion. But it was fun to play them again and I do intend to go back and do some more of them minus Super Star Wars.
